The Food Standards Agency says 'best before' dates are more about quality than safety. Advice on its website says: "When the date runs out it doesn't mean the food will be harmful, but it might begin to lose its flavour and texture.

'Best before' dates are only an approximate guide as to when a product is deemed to still be at its very best - in most cases these products will taste almost, if not the very same, for several months once they have passed their 'best before' date - so grab yourself a bargain and bag some cheap sweets now!
